My favorite childhood memory is swinging on my swing set at my Dad's looking at the blue sky and the bright, bright golden yellow sun. Hot sunlight kissing my face. Aside from the rustling leaves of the poplar tree, there was the rhythmic sound of the swing set rocking off the ground in a wide open space. Freedom, happiness, a fluttering heart, a sense of safety. The swing set was Dad's gift to me.
That memory was a blissful moment against a backdrop of difficulty, a broken family. But it was the reason I named my first puppy, Sunshine. Sunshine was my favorite thing.
